Appreciating our Support in 2016
Care Partners services were made possible by our many foundation supporters, donors, and business sponsors (listed below). Our board members continued to invest their time in our nonprofit development with new policies, fundraising initiatives and program support.
57 volunteers donated over 2800 hours to provide companionship, give rides and help with chores. Our staff have responded to new situations and the many challenges of this work with good heart. Finally, we appreciate our clients—those facing the challenges of aging, illness and caregiving—for letting us support them and for sharing their journey with us. Here’s a few highlights:
- Martha Olson was hired as our new Senior Rides Coordinator.
- Kelly started our new Senior Chore program.
- Over 50 people attended a “Being Mortal” screening.
- Caregiver Coffee groups continued in Tofte & Grand Marais.
- Our 1st Annual Ice Cream Social was held at Sydney’s Custard

Senior Spring Cleanup Day, Saturday May 20th
Groups of all ages are invited to help elderly neighbors with spring outdoor clean-up. It’s an ideal time for family, friends, & organizations to work together to help local seniors remain safely in their homes. Volunteers rake leaves, trim bushes, plant flowers, and do general clean up in yards & garages.
Interested volunteers and seniors should call 387-3788 by May 5th. There is no charge to seniors; but tax deductible donations are gratefully accepted.
Call Kelly at 387-3788 for more information.
Supporting Independence
Jan was spending most of the day hauling wood into her house a few pieces at a time. Medications made her arms bruise easily. Cancer treatments had left her with little energy. Exhausted, Jan realized she needed help but had no family in the area.
Now Jan has volunteers from Care Partners Senior Chore Program to assist with stacking and hauling wood, washing windows and shoveling her deck.
“The biggest impact for me,” says Jan, “has been the peace of mind. Now I can heat my house and have someone to call on when I need assistance.” Jan also doesn’t have to worry about slipping and falling trying to do this all herself.
Jan says her volunteer, Yvonne, does her work with such strength and kindness. “She takes such a personal interest and offers to help with other needs I have.” Jan says that Yvonne also sings when she works and is wonderful to be around. “Everything is so nice when she is done.”
Yvonne joined Care Partners as a Chore Volunteer this winter, because she had more time. “There is more meaning to life when you can do something to help others.”
“It’s a Win-Win for all,” she says. “It helps Jan and also helps me get outside and exercise. It’s self care for me by helping someone else.” Yvonne says the hardest part is just getting started. “Once you get out, it makes you feel good.”
More volunteers are needed. Choose activities that fit you and your schedule. Call Kelly at 387-3788 to get started.
