The Minnesota Department of Health strongly encourages Minnesotans aged 6 months and older to receive the flu vaccine. According to the DHS, getting an influenza vaccination is especially important this year because:

  • The decrease in following COVID-19 prevention measures such as masking indoors and maintaining a six-foot distance is likely to result in wider circulation of the seasonal flu virus
  • Reduced population immunity due to the lack of flu virus activity since March 2020 could lead to an early and possibly severe flu season
  • Taking steps to prevent or reduce the severity of influenza could potentially alleviate stress on the continued burdened health care system due to COVID-19

Speak with your physician about any concerns or to see if getting the flu vaccine is right for you!
