Companion Volunteer Training

Companions befriend older adults through visits, telephone calls or outings. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and can choose assignments and schedules that work for them! For the safety and well-being of our clients and those who provide services to them, all Care Partners volunteers are required to complete an application, pass a background check, and attend program training.

Companion training participants meet Care Partners staff and learn about safety, end-of-life, comfort measures, dementia, elder awareness, communication and more. This 6-hour training workshop will take place at Cook County Higher Education on Saturday, October 29 from 9am to 3:30pm. A light lunch will be included. Please pre-register so we can prepare enough training materials (and food!)

Chore or Senior Rides Volunteer Training

Chore volunteers assist with small projects indoors or outdoors to help seniors stay safe at home. Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage and can choose projects to fit their schedule and interests:

  • yard & garden help, shoveling snow
  • light housekeeping, organizing
  • easy home maintenance
  • help with a delivery or errand

Senior Rides volunteers provide transportation using their own vehicle. They may drive within Cook County and if they choose they can also provide rides to Duluth. Volunteers are reimbursed for total mileage (including to and from a client’s home), and choose ride assignments that will work for them.

Both Chore and Senior Rides Volunteer training programs are self-directed. You can access and view training materials electronically and online, then meet with a Care Partners staff member in our offices to go over any questions and begin the background check process. (Some materials are also available in print format if you prefer.)
